Last season Bobby was threatening to break the record for fewest league draws for a Weymouth manager ever with just 4 in 38 games at 11%.

Fast forward to this season and he has already reached that total of 4 draws…in just 12 games! At 33% that is obviously 3x the rate of last season!

This is almost certainly a too small sample size to be significant at this stage. However it is interesting to see that it appears to be the period after 80 mins that is making the difference at the moment and it will be interesting to see if that continues.

If we compare the 80min position last season under Bobby (top chart) we can see we were drawing 32% of games at that moment in time, almost identical to the 33% full time position we see so far this season (bottom chart).

In our previous Wilkinson campaign only 2 of the 12 games were were level in at 80mins remained that way at the final whistle. We went on to win 4 and draw 6 for the draw percentage to drop by two thirds in a short space of time.

In this campaign we are drawing more games with 10 regulation minutes to go 5/12(42%) but only one of those game swung in the final knockings when we went on to lose from an 89th minute goal at Hampton & Richmond.

Three of our four draws have of course been our last three league games all against teams within four points of us. So it raises the question…If it was our destiny to get three points from this trio of games…would it have been better to win one and lose two rather than gaining three draws?

Not a great deal of difference but I suppose if we kept drawing games against our bottom half rivals, gaining one point and ensuing our opponents also only gain a point, we are likely to remain in a mildly precarious position on or around 18th.

CONCLUSION…Drawing games more often will ensure a nervous few months with a final tally of around 50 points and again fighting to stay up by a thin margin for the second season in a row…can we start to turn some of these draws into wins to pull away from trouble?…
